Peru loses one of its most beloved musical groups - Nectar

On May 13 a van carrying the nine members of the Peruvian group Nectar swerved off an elevated highway in Buenos Aries, plunged to the ground below and burst into flames. All nine members of the band, their manager and several others were killed.

The loss hit Peru hard. The group formed in 1995 in Argentina and played the popular techno-tropical style rhythms known as "cumbia".

Led by singer Jhonny Orozco the band was made up of Peruvian immigrants living in Argentina. Their biggest hit, "el Arbolito" was in 2000 but they continued to play to packed crowds across South America.

Their funeral last week was attended by Peruvian President Alan Garcia and more than 12,000 people showed up for a memorial concert two days later.
